Our Collection

Large Print

Many of your favorite authors and topics are included in our Large Print collection in Adult Services.

eBooks and Audiobooks

Enjoy audiobooks and readable books on your computer, digital music player, or audio-enabled device through the Library’s Overdrive/Libby and Hoopla [link to ebooks and audiobooks filter page] collection of digital materials. These are customizable for people with disabilities, including the text size and screen contrast.

Books on CD and Playaways

We also have a great collection of audiobooks on CD, which you can find in the Audiobook section past the Adult Services computer area. Also in this collection are Playaways, which are self-contained audiobooks—just pop in some batteries and plug in your headphones!

Talking Book and Braille Service

Sponsored by the Illinois State Library, this resource offers playback equipment and talking books through the mail to those unable to read traditional print material free of charge. Find out more about this program by calling 1(800) 665-5576, emailing isltbbs@ilsos.gov or by visiting https://www.ilbph.org.

Service Animals

Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.

Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability. Service Dogs ARE permitted at the Library.

Emotional Support Animals Not Permitted

Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.

Per our Library Code of Conduct, while service animals are welcome in the library, other pets or animals are NOT permitted. The Library is not a place for emotional support animals or for socializing your pup. You can download a list of places where this is acceptable, but always call the location first to confirm it’s ok.
